Stow's Cross-Referencing

Stow was scrupulous in his cross-referencing of his different manuscript sources.

In the first of the two manuscripts here, Trinity College, Cambridge, MS R.3.21, on fol. 51r, Stow notes that the prologue lacks 10 staves. In Bodleian Library, MS Lyell 34, on fol. 208v, Stow notes that “some have denied this.” That is, in his reading, he has encountered sources that claim that Edward Duke of Clarence did have legal heirs.
